Ever had one of those breakouts that show up right before something important, and seem personally offended by the idea of leaving your face? Yeah, same. Gladly, I’m past my teenage years (where that happened way too often in the most embarrassing moments), but hormones are crazy and every once in a while this keeps happening.
So before you reach for the latest miracle serum from TikTok, hear me out: I’ve got a DIY spot treatment that works that might already be sitting in your kitchen. Matcha and honey, that’s it. A green powder and a golden drizzle that somehow pull off skincare sorcery together.
At this point, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, since these two ingredients have been part of my DIY skincare projects on this blog for a while now. But this one hits different. It’s quick, it’s soothing, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is.
If you’ve ever wished for a spot treatment that feels more like self-care than punishment, keep reading. This is the easiest, sweetest way to turn a bad skin day into a chill one.
what you’ll need (and why it works)
Again, you only need two ingredients, and both of them are skincare legends in their own right:
-
¼ tsp Matcha DNA matcha powder
Green, powerful, and loaded with antioxidants. Matcha helps calm redness, reduce inflammation, and fight off the free radicals that love to mess with your skin -
½ tsp raw honey
Thick, golden, and naturally antibacterial. Honey soothes your skin, and helps clean out pores and speed up healing. And it feels really good on your face, too
As clean as it gets. No alcohols, no parabens, no “secret” ingredients you can’t even pronounce.
how to make your matcha spot treatment
I’m not even sure I can call it a spot treatment considering how easy and simple it is, tbh. But let’s pretend like it is. Here are the step-by-step instructions for it:
-
Mix it up: In a bowl, combine your matcha powder and honey until you get a smooth paste.
-
Apply: Using clean fingers or a cotton swab, dab the mixture directly onto your breakouts. Targeted treatment >>>
-
Wait it out: Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes while you scroll, chill, make yourself a matcha latte… you know, the usual self-care rituals.
-
Rinse & glow: Gently rinse off with warm water and then finish it up with your usual skincare routine.
want to go further?
Once you see what matcha can do, you’ll want to put it in everything. Trust me, I’ve been there (and I am there, it’s a one way trip). So if you want to explore more DIY beauty hacks like this one, go check out our blog! Here are a few you can’t miss out on:
-
Matcha eye gel patches: perfect for de-puffing, brightening, and anti-aging
-
A matcha sugar scrub: a body scrub that works magic on your everything-shower
-
Matcha clay mask: another method to get rid of those annoying pimples
-
A banana and matcha face mask: yup, you read that right. Bananas are loaded with potassium and other nutrients to hydrate your skin
-
Olive oil and matcha hair mask: because matcha deserves to go on your hair-care routine, as well
DIY doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to feel good. And who doesn’t love a self-care spa session, right?
Sometimes the simplest things really are the most effective. A tiny spoonful of matcha and honey can calm an angry breakout better than most store-bought products, and it feels good knowing exactly what’s going on your skin.
