Why you should be putting bananas and matcha on your face

Why you should be putting bananas and matcha on your face

Ok, I got another matcha face mask for y'all. And yes, how I came across it is kinda weird, ngl.

I was on my TikTok fyp when my wonderful algorithm decided to show me a woman rubbing banana peel all over her face “for its skin benefits” and talking about “natural botox”. I was in awe. It was random but… made sense, I guess? Clearly, I started digging, and from what I found, yes, apparently bananas can be good for your skin! So obviously, it just made sense to look for a face mask that combined banana with my partner in crime, matcha. And I found it.

This isn’t about miracle cures or 12-step routines. This is about one ridiculously easy, natural face mask that does the most, hydrating, soothing, and brightening, with a few ingredients you probably already have. Let’s talk matcha + banana, and why your skin might be obsessed.

Your skin’s been screaming, and this is why

You know that tight, dull feeling your skin gets after a long day of makeup, blue light, and stress-snacking? That’s your face begging for moisture, antioxidants, and something that isn’t another bottle of mystery serum. Especially if you’ve been riding the breakout rollercoaster or dealing with flakiness, it’s time to hit pause and reset.

That’s where this DIY mask steps in. From what I read online, bananas are basically nature’s moisturizer, loaded with potassium, antioxidants, and vitamins that soften and hydrate. Matcha? It’s no news that it’s the antioxidant queen. It helps calm inflammation, balance oils, and gives your skin that fresh, rested look (even if you totally stayed up scrolling TikTok until 2 a.m.). Add a little raw honey for its antibacterial superpowers and organic coconut oil for that silky finish and extra hydration, and you’ve got yourself a glow-up in a bowl.

What you’ll need

  • ½ ripe banana (the more spots, the better)

  • 1 scoop of Matcha DNA matcha powder

  • 1 tbsp of raw organic honey

  • 1 tbsp of organic coconut oil

How to make it

  1. Mash the banana: In a bowl, mash the banana with a fork until it’s a smooth paste.

  2. Add the sweet: Stir in the honey and coconut oil (should be liquid for an easier blend) until fully combined.

  3. Matcha-fy it: Once that’s smooth, add in the matcha and mix well until the mask turns a soft green and most lumps are gone (some texture is okay! Remember, it’s homemade, not store-bought).

💡 Pro tip: If you want to level it up, pop it in the fridge for 5 minutes before applying. It’ll feel cool and calming when you put it on (amazing for this summer heat).

Apply, chill, glow

Ready to use? Here’s how, but remember to start off with a clean face for utmost effectiveness!

Use your fingers or a clean brush to apply a thick layer evenly across your face, avoiding the eye area, obviously. It’s going to look (and smell) a little like a smoothie, which is part of the fun. Find a comfy spot, put on some music, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. This is your chill moment.

When time’s up, rinse gently with lukewarm water using your hands or a soft cloth. Pat dry and follow up with your usual skincare routine. You’ll notice an instant softness, and with regular use (once or twice a week), your skin will thank you in the form of fewer breakouts and a dewier glow.

Trust me: once you try it, this mask will become your go-to for bad skin days, self-care nights, or literally any time your face just needs a little love.

Let’s be real, this one’s a keeper

And just like that, you’ve got a skin treat that’s easy, natural, and actually kind of fun to make. Between the calming green tea goodness, the banana’s nourishing boost, and that honey-coconut combo doing the most, this little DIY moment is way more than a cute self-care trend. It’s a reset button you can whip up whenever your skin (or your mood) needs it.

But here’s the fun part: this is just one way to play with matcha outside the mug. Have you tried it in a scrub? A lip balm? Something totally out of the box? I’d honestly love to see it.
