Dark circles? Puffy eyes? Let’s be real: no one wants to look tired. It’s time for the ultimate self-care matcha hack.
The other day I was scrolling through my TikTok fyp and came across a viral video of DIY coffee eye gel patches, meant to depuff and hydrate your under-eyes. Watching it blindly (my TikTok is full of recipes and beauty hacks, ngl), I thought to myself what if this worked with matcha, too? In the end, matcha green tea is really good for your skin, and girl, the video made it so easy to make I couldn’t not give it a try. So I took the idea and adapted it with matcha powder. And it’s quite a hit.
So whether you’re running on zero sleep or just need a little extra glow, these matcha eye gel patches are about to become your new self-care obsession. They’re fun to make, easy to use, and totally worthy of your next GRWM. Bonus? You get all those matcha tea benefits for that fresh, dewy look.
Your under-eyes are about to have their green tea glow up, bb.
Why matcha is the superhero your under-eyes need
We’re not just making these because they look cute (but, let’s be honest, they do). Matcha green tea has incredible benefits for your skin:
-
Caffeine = instant depuffing: it reduces swelling and tightens skin
-
Antioxidants = anti-aging: it fights free radicals for youthful, fresh skin
-
Chlorophyll = brightening & detoxing: helping fade dark circles naturally
-
Collagen boost: this recipe mixes the matcha with gelatin, creating a plumping effect for smoother, firmer skin.
And if you want to learn more about it, I recently wrote an article on the top five health benefits of this green elixir. Matcha doesn’t disappoint 😌
What you’ll need
What I love about looking for DIY skincare solutions is that there’s no fancy skincare shopping needed. There’s always an alternative with ingredients you can easily have at home (or easily get at the grocery store or on Amazon). So don’t get nervous, you’ve got this!
-
1 tbsp unflavored gelatin (for the gel texture)
-
2 tbsp warm water (to activate the gelatin)
-
1 scoop Matcha DNA matcha powder (for all the skin-loving benefits)
-
2 oz hot water (to mix the matcha)
How to make them
Stop scrolling (like me, whoops) and start mixing! Here’s how to make these in under 5 minutes (plus chill time).
-
Prepare the gel base: In a small bowl, combine the gelatin with 2 tbsp warm water, and stir until fully dissolved.
-
Make the matcha: Just do what you would normally do to make yourself a matcha. Whisk the matcha powder into a cup with 2 oz hot water until frothy.
-
Combine the magic: Add 1 tbsp of the matcha you just made into the gelatin mixture and stir well (you can drink the leftover matcha while you’re at it). You can also sprinkle some extra matcha tea powder and mix lightly for a swirly aesthetic look.
-
Pour and set: Pour the mixture into plastic molds (I reused ones I had from a set of eye gel patches I had bought and already used up, no fuss) and pop them in the fridge for at least 15 minutes.
-
Apply and chill: Once they’re ready, put the matcha eye gel patches under your eyes and let them work their magic 🧘✨ for 10 to 15 minutes.
Don’t have time to do all of that? No worries, you can also get simple eye patches by soaking up cotton pads in freshly made matcha green tea. I would still suggest putting them in the fridge for a bit before placing them under your eyes, because that cooling effect is super lovely.
Same matcha tea benefits, less effort.
