Glow up: DIY matcha sugar scrub

Glow up: DIY matcha sugar scrub

It’s self-care Sunday and time for an everything-shower. You go into your bathroom to get everything you need and ugh, you’re out of exfoliating scrub!!

This happened to me last Sunday. Quite a bummer, ngl, it’s like the one thing I look forward to on Sundays. So anyway, I did an almost-everything-shower. And then the next day at work (here, looking for ideas to share with you), I came across a DIY matcha body scrub that didn’t seem hard to make at all. Won’t lie, I was pretty mad at myself for not thinking about it the previous day. But well, instead of being grumpy, I saved the details and tried it out that night. And now the best I can do is share it with you guys, so that nobody goes through what I went through (dramatic music).

Creating your own green tea sugar body scrub is not only fun, it’s also a fantastic way to pamper your skin with the numerous matcha tea benefits. This simple recipe combines exfoliation with the antioxidant properties of matcha green tea, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Why exfoliate?

Exfoliating every once in a while actually helps remove dead skin cells, revealing smoother and brighter skin. It enhances your skin texture and allows for better absorption of your skincare products (the wonders of an everything-shower). However, over-exfoliation can lead to irritated skin, so it’s best to just do it once or twice a week.

And matcha in skincare? No need for me to repeat that it’s great because it’s rich in antioxidants and can reduce redness and irritation.

Come on, let’s get into the body scrub already.

Ingredients needed

To create your own matcha green tea sugar body scrub, get:

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup liquid coconut oil

  • 1 tbsp Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder

  • 5-10 drops of essential oil (you can use whatever scent you like, I would go for peppermint for freshness or lavender for relaxation)

The process

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, add the brown sugar and the organic matcha powder, and stir until evenly mixed.

  2. Add the oily stuff: Gradually pour in the coconut oil while stirring continuously to form a cohesive paste. Then, add your drops of essential oil and mix thoroughly to distribute the fragrance evenly.

  3. Use it directly or store it: That’s it! Not hard at all, right? It’s ready to use if you’re in a rush like I was last Sunday, or you can transfer it into a clean, airtight glass jar or container and save it for later.

Here are some tips to use it

  • Apply the scrub to damp skin in the shower, massaging gently in circular motions.

  • Concentrate on areas that are more prone to dryness or roughness, like your elbows, knees, and feet.

  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat your skin dry. Once you’re out of the shower, make sure to follow up with a moisturizer to lock in hydration (I recently tried making our own matcha facial cream, you should go check that out!).

That’s all, bb.

Try this out, your skin will thank you (>ᴗ•)
