Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you should know at this point that matcha green tea isn’t just for sipping. It’s a full-on lifestyle. From energizing your mornings to leveling up your skincare routine, matcha is the it-girl of superfoods, and the perfect ally in your DIY beauty game.
So, obviously, I was obsessed when I figured that just by mixing matcha powder with coconut oil you could get a green tea coconut body lotion that’s hydrating, glow-boosting, and totally TikTok-worthy. Like, how simple can a DIY beauty project get? Just those two ingredients. This whipped, dreamy lotion is so easy to make, smells insanely good, and will leave your skin feeling like a dewy goddess.
Why matcha + coconut oil = skincare goals
You’ve heard me talk about the incredible flavor combo between these two ingredients (seriously heaven), but girl, these two bad boys are the ingredients that you need in your skincare, too. And here’s why.
🍵 Matcha tea benefits for your skin
Matcha is packed with antioxidants and skin-loving nutrients that:
-
Fight redness & irritation (bye, inflammation)
-
Protect against environmental stressors (your skin’s personal bodyguard)
-
Boost radiance & glow (hello, fresh-faced energy)
🥥 Coconut oil’s superpowers
Coconut oil is that girl when it comes to hydration. It’s:
-
Ultra-moisturizing without feeling heavy
-
A natural glow booster (glass skin, who?)
-
Rich in fatty acids to keep your skin soft AF
Together? Yup: hydration, antioxidant protection, perfect glow.
Ingredients
No weird chemicals, no complicated steps. Just two all-natural ingredients:
-
1 cup coconut oil
-
2 tbsp Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder (the best matcha green tea powder you can get. Trust)
Here’s how to make it
-
Melt the coconut oil: Scoop that coconut oil into a double boiler and melt over medium heat. (No double boiler? No problem! I actually just place a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. No crazy equipment needed).
-
Infuse with matcha powder: Stir in the matcha tea powder until fully blended. Cover and let it sit on low heat for 30 minutes to infuse all those skin-loving advantages of matcha tea. (Perfect time for a matcha latte break, don’t you think?)
-
Strain for smoothness: Use a cheesecloth to strain out any leftover matcha clumps. We’re going for that silky, smooth finish.
-
Chill to perfection: Pop the infused oil in the freezer for 10 to 20 minutes until it’s almost solid, like a soft-gel consistency. Yeah, we ain’t waiting overnight or anything like that.
-
Whip it, whip it good: Grab a hand mixer and whip for 3 to 5 minutes until it turns into a fluffy, cloud-like lotion.
-
Store it: Scoop your freshly whipped green tea coconut body lotion into a cute jar and try it out!
PS: You may want to keep it in the fridge to avoid the coconut oil from melting, especially during the summer.
That’s it! Pretty easy, right?
