So, you already know that matcha is a versatile queen and can be used in your morning latte, your smoothies, your recipes, and even your beauty routine. Well, I never get tired of discovering new ways to use it in my skincare. This matcha face scrub isn’t just about exfoliation. It’s about giving your skin that natural glow while keeping things fun, easy, and totally worth a skincare selfie.
Why matcha? (I know you know, but let me do a little recap)
I really hope that, at this point, matcha isn’t new to your beauty routine, it’s already a staple. But in case you need a reminder of why your skin loves it:
-
Rich in antioxidants: packed with catechins that fight free radicals and slow down aging.
-
Soothes & depuffs: bye, redness and puffiness. Matcha calms irritated skin like a pro.
-
Detoxifies deeply: thanks to chlorophyll, matcha draws out toxins and levels up your glow.
If you’re not rubbing matcha all over your face yet, this is your sign. Also: aesthetic and super fun. 100% recommend.
Face scrub vs. body scrub: yup, there’s a difference
I’ve previously written an article showing how to do a green tea sugar body scrub, where I also explained the importance of exfoliating once in a while. So yeah, if you’ve been following us for a while, you may already know that exfoliating is key. But your face is not your elbows, so obviously the scrub you use for your face shouldn’t really be the same one you use on the rest of your body. Here’s the deal:
❌ Body scrubs = too rough for delicate facial skin.
✅ Face scrubs = gentle but effective, made with finer granules that won’t hurt your skin.
This DIY matcha face scrub is designed to be gentle, leaving you with smooth, radiant skin, without irritation.
What you’ll need
-
2 tbsp cane sugar (serves as a gentle exfoliant to buff away dead skin cells)
-
½ tbsp coconut oil (hydrates + has antimicrobial properties, great for a thorough cleanse)
-
1 tbsp honey (a moisture-locking, acne-fighting, antibacterial superstar)
-
1 tsp Matcha DNA’s matcha powder (the star of the show, you already know the drill)
Step-by-step guide
-
Mix it up: Stir cane sugar + matcha powder in a bowl. Add the honey + softened coconut oil until you get a thick, scrubby paste.
-
Prep your face: Wash with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
-
Apply the scrub: Using circular motions to massage it onto your face (obviously avoiding the eye area). Do it for 1-2 minutes so the scrub can do its thing. Be gentle, though! You’re helping your skin, not fighting against it.
-
Rinse off: Use lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
-
Post-scrub care: Finish with your usual skincare routine, making sure to use a hydrating moisturizer to lock in that glow.
💡 Exfoliating 101: You shouldn’t use this scrub more than once or twice a week to keep your skin looking its best.
