You love a good matcha latte, you’ve tried it in matcha tea recipes, and you already know the advantages of matcha tea for your skin. But did you ever consider putting it on your hair? Yup, that’s right, matcha green tea is also an ally to strengthen your hair, and you can incorporate it into a few hair mask experiments. Of course, I’ve done the experiment for you, so you can skip the crazy part and just follow a few simple steps.
This matcha hair mask is about to give your breakage-prone strands their ✨ best life ✨. Think stronger, healthier, shinier hair, all while looking like a green-haired goddess for 30 minutes (oh, so much fun).
Why matcha for your hair?
You already know that matcha is like the superfood for your skin. Well, the benefits it can have for your hair are not far off, tbh. Here’s why your hair is about to become obsessed with matcha:
-
Antioxidants = stronger strands: matcha tea powder is packed with antioxidants that fight hair damage and help keep breakage at bay.
-
Scalp soother: dry, itchy scalp? Matcha’s anti-inflammatory properties help calm irritation and keep things balanced.
-
Hair growth booster: Some say that the caffeine in matcha stimulates hair follicles = more growth, less shedding.
What you’ll need to make your matcha hair mask
-
1 egg (protein = stronger hair)
-
1 tbsp almond oil (hydration boost)
-
1 tbsp Matcha DNA matcha powder
How to make it and use it
-
Mix it up: In a bowl, beat the egg and add the almond oil and matcha powder. Mix it all until it’s smooth and green.
-
Apply it: You should apply it to dry or slightly damp hair. To make it easier, I recommend sectioning your hair, massaging the hair mask into your scalp first, and then working it through to your ends.
-
Let it do its magic: Put on a shower cap (yes, Shrek queeeeen) and leave it on for 30 minutes. Go make yourself a matcha latte while you’re waiting, bb.
-
Rinse and reveal: Once the time has passed, rinse it off with cold or slightly warm water (you DO NOT want to use hot water unless you want scrambled green eggs. Yeah, not a vibe. At least not in your hair). You can then finish off by washing it like you normally would.
New hair, who diisss?
Might be a little nasty to put on, ngl, but tbh natural hair masks are usually kinda messy. And also, the results? So worth it. I mean, you get to put matcha in your hair. If you’re obsessed with matcha as I am, that sounds incredibly fun.
