Your skincare routine? It’s not just about cleansing, it’s about curating a whole vibe. It’s your self-care moment. A ritual, even.
Whether you’re team “just woke up and need a glow” or “can’t go to sleep without my skin being pampered”, you deserve products that match your skin type and your lifestyle. And while we all know about cleansers, serums and moisturizers, there’s one underrated hero in the lineup: toner. Yeah, the one you aren’t even really sure what it does.
Today, I’m serving you a DIY matcha toner made with just two ingredients: matcha powder and cucumber juice. It’s giving calming, cooling, and completely TikTok-worthy. And so easy, too!
What even is a toner? (and why you need one)
I won’t lie, I don’t always use toner in my daily skincare routine. Yup, I’m part of the crew that underrates this step. But I’ve been doing some research, and apparently it’s quite important to really finish off that cleanse and help close your pores. Think of it as the reset button your skin didn’t know it needed. A good toner:
-
Rebalances your pH
-
Soothes irritation
-
Hydrates or gently mattifies
-
Preps your face for whatever comes next (serum, moisturizer, SPF, good decisions…)
The problem? So many drugstore toners are loaded with harsh chemicals. And those? They’re giving ✨dry and angry✨, not the vibe.
Enter: natural skincare you can actually trust. When you DIY it, you know exactly what’s going on your face. And adding matcha to it? My fave hack.
Why matcha + cucumber = the dream team
These aren’t just randomly thought ingredients. This combo works, especially if your skin is sensitive, dull, and breakout-prone.
Matcha powder
An incredible ally for your skin, hopefully it’s no news to you. Have you seen all the ways you can add matcha to your skincare? Yeah, you definitely should.
-
Packed with antioxidants
-
Fights inflammation
-
Reduces redness
-
Detoxifies without stripping
Cucumber
There’s a reason people put cucumbers on their eyes when they’re in a spa in movies, you know?
-
Has a cooling and calming effect, helping reduce redness and irritation
-
Loaded with vitamins C & K
-
Naturally hydrating and de-puffing (perfect for under eyes)
Together, this duo smells and feels fresh AF, and leaves you glowing.
What you’ll need for your DIY toner
-
1 scoop Matcha DNA matcha tea powder
-
2 oz hot (not boiling) water
-
½ cucumber, sliced
That’s it. Minimal effort. Maximum glow.
How to make it
-
Whisk it up: Mix the matcha powder with 2 oz hot water. Let it cool completely.
-
Juice the cucumber: Blend your cucumber slices and strain the juice (no one wants pulp on their face, tbh).
-
Mix and vibe: Combine equal parts of matcha tea and cucumber juice in a container. Stir well. (PSA: make yourself an iced matcha latte and drink the leftover matcha. Never waste matcha. Ever.)
-
Bottle it: Pour the mixture into a clean bottle or spray container.
-
Fridge it: Store it chilled, and shake before each use.
🧊 Use within 7–10 days for max freshness and glow. Have in mind it’s all-natural ingredients, so they don’t last as long as a store-bought product.
How to use your matcha toner (no 10-step routine needed)
-
Start off with the first step in your usual routine: a gentle cleanser. Pat your face dry.
-
Get a cotton pad or reusable round and soak it in your chilled matcha toner. Dab it gently onto your skin, especially on puffy areas like your under-eye or cheeks.
-
You can also apply directly if you’re storing it in a spray bottle. It’s quite a nice, refreshing experience, especially in summer!
-
Let it sink in for a few minutes before finishing up the rest of the routine: under eye cream, serum, moisturizer… you know the drill.
📆 You should be doing your skincare morning and night, girl. So use the toner twice a day for that consistent glow-up.
That’s all for now, bb.
