You know I’m all about DIY treatments for my hair and skin. Well, I recently came up with the brilliant idea to mix the concept of an ACV (apple cider vinegar) hair rinse with matcha. Yup. I know it’s not the most attractive idea to put vinegar in your hair, but you have to trust the process because the benefits that it has for your hair are 💋 chef’s kiss.
Whether you’re struggling with buildup, looking to restore shine, or just want to nourish your scalp, this rinse has got your back.
What is a hair rinse?
A hair rinse is essentially a final step in your washing routine, but it’s so much more than a simple afterthought. Think of it like a nourishing finish after shampooing and conditioning that will give your hair a little extra love, whether it’s by balancing the pH, adding shine, or helping to detoxify. They’re quick, effective, and best of all, they don’t require a ton of effort.
But why apple cider vinegar? What does it do to your hair?
Apple cider vinegar is a secret weapon in many beauty routines, and for good reason.
-
It’s packed with acids that help restore your scalp’s natural pH balance, reducing flakiness and dryness
-
It smoothes hair cuticles, leaving your hair shinier and softer
-
It helps get rid of product buildup, and also helps shift excess oil in your scalp
-
It has mild antibacterial properties, keeping your scalp healthy and free of irritation
And why matcha?
This shouldn’t be any news to you, but let me remind you why matcha is a powerhouse when it comes to your hair, too: it’s loaded with antioxidants, which help protect your hair from free radicals and environmental damage. By incorporating matcha into your hair rinse, you might also be strengthening your hair follicles, promoting healthier hair growth.
When paired with apple cider vinegar, matcha helps boost the detoxifying and nourishing effects, leaving you with hair that looks and feels amazing.
Ingredients you’ll need
Ready to try this rinse? Here’s what you’ll need:
-
1 tbsp of Matcha DNA matcha powder
-
1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
-
1 cup of water
-
Optional: a few drops of essential oil like lavender or tea tree
Here’s how you make the rinse
Easy-peasy.
-
Make your matcha: In a bowl, whisk the matcha powder with 1 cup of hot water until it’s fully dissolved and smooth.
-
Add the vinegar: Add the apple cider vinegar to the mix, then stir everything together. If you're using essential oils, now’s the time to add a few drops, too.
-
Store it: Pour the mixture into a bottle or a container that’s easy to use for application. I recommend like a spray bottle or one that has a dropper.
Not sure how to use it? No problem!
-
After shampooing and conditioning your hair, pour the matcha-ACV rinse over your hair. Make sure to cover your scalp completely.
-
Gently work the hair rinse into your hair with your fingers for about a minute. This will help it penetrate and work its magic.
-
Let the rinse sit for 3–5 minutes to give it time to work. If you’re short on time, you can skip this, but the longer it sits, the more your hair will benefit.
-
Rinse your hair thoroughly with cool water. Your hair will feel refreshed, soft, and healthy.
And that’s it! You can do this once a week or so to keep your hair healthy and shiny, and I’m sure you’ll notice the difference right away. Not only will this help detox and balance your scalp, it’ll also infuse your hair with antioxidants and strength-boosting properties.
