The other day, I was at a drugstore doing some shopping, and I came across a matcha lip balm. And I thought to myself, this is such a good idea. So I looked at the ingredients and found out that I didn’t understand like half of them. A bit disappointed, I left it there, bought what I went there for, and headed home. But on the way, I had an epiphany: there must be a way of making your own moisturizing lip balm with not-so-crazy ingredients, and I have matcha at home to make a little experiment.
I started looking for DIY recipes (there’s a lot, tbh) until I found one with ingredients I could easily get. And I got to work.
Let me tell you, I managed to make a matcha moisturizing lip balm that not only nourishes your lips and leaves them hella soft, it also tastes like matcha without giving me green lips. Kinda perfect for my matcha obsession.
So let me run you through the steps so that you can try it yourself ;)
Matcha for your lips? Yes, babe
We already know that matcha isn’t just for your morning latte, it’s a powerhouse ingredient for your beauty routine. Here’s why adding matcha tea powder is a game-changer:
-
Antioxidant rich: matcha is loaded with antioxidants that result in reduced inflammation and keep your skin looking young and fresh.
-
Soothing & nourishing: thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory properties, matcha soothes irritated skin and helps maintain moisture, leaving your lips soft and supple.
By incorporating matcha, you’re not only giving your lips a treat (did I say it tastes good?), but also taking care of them just like they need it.
Now let’s get into it.
Ingredients
-
¼ tsp Matcha DNA matcha powder (my go-to organic matcha powder)
-
1 tbsp coconut oil
-
½ tbsp beeswax
And here’s how to make it:
-
Melt: Combine the coconut oil, beeswax, and matcha powder and melt over a double boiler, stirring slowly. No need for a fancy set-up, you can get a heat-safe bowl and put it over simmering water.
-
Cool and pour: Once they’re completely melted, remove from the heat and let it cool for a minute or so before putting it into your 1 oz glass jar or tube (you can easily find these on Amazon).
-
Chill out: Pop the container in the fridge and allow it to cool completely, until the mixture solidifies into a ready-to-use lip balm. That’s it! Not too complicated, right?
Considering it’s not too hard, I think the best part about this DIY lip balm is that you can add your own personal twist and try different formulas every time you do it. Add a drop of mint or your favorite essential oil, change up the proportions, or add up other flavors. Experimenting is key to getting it just the way you like it.
So that’s all for today, bb. I was super happy with the results and would love to know if you get to try it out! So please please please share your own versions of this matcha moisturizing lip balm on Instagram by tagging us @matchadna and on TikTok at @matcha.dna.
