Earl grey + matcha = a dream team

Earl grey + matcha = a dream team

Earl Grey. Matcha. Two iconic flavors, each with a cult following. But what happens when you combine them? Magic, apparently. TikTok’s been crazy about it in the last few months, so I thought it’s never too late to try it out, right?

Imagine sipping your usual Earl Grey tea, smooth, aromatic, with just a touch of citrus, and then adding the vibrant, earthy notes of matcha to the mix. The result? Honestly, sounds lovely, a drink that feels both timeless and totally new, a fusion of the old and the fresh.

Ready to shake up your usual cuppa? Keep reading, I’ll show you how I made mine.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop (1.5 g) Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder

  • 2 tbsp Earl Grey syrup (homemade or store-bought, we don’t judge here!)

  • 1 cup of your preferred milk (whether it’s oat, almond, coconut… imo, oat milk adds a nice touch and combines perfectly)

  • Plenty of ice

Instructions: brewing your Earl Grey matcha the right way

  1. Whisk your matcha: In a bowl, prepare your matcha as you normally would. Sift 1 scoop of matcha and whisk it with 2 oz hot water until frothy and smooth.

  2. Set the base: Fill up a tall glass with ice cubes and pour in 2 tablespoons of your Earl Grey syrup (or more, depending on how sweet you like it). You’re looking for a balanced sweetness that complements the bitterness of the matcha, so feel free to adjust based on your taste.

  3. Add the milk: Now, pour in your milk. If you like your drink extra smooth, you can froth the milk before adding it. Totally up to you and how much effort you want to put into it, but it adds a nice touch!

  4. Assemble your drink: Now for the fun part, gently pour the matcha over the milk and syrup mixture. You’ll see the colors blend together, creating a beautiful swirl effect (best moment of making a matcha, don’t you think?). Give it a light stir, and enjoy!

How to make your own Earl Grey syrup

Want to make your own Earl Grey syrup instead of using store-bought? No problem! It’s quite simple and honestly tastes perfect. Plus, you’re making it, so you choose how strong and sweet you want it to be. Here’s how you can make it:

You’ll need:

  • ½ cup filtered water

  • 3 Earl Grey teabags (or 3 tsp loose-leaf tea, if you’re fancy like that)

  • ½ cup organic cane sugar

How to make it:

  1. In a small pot over medium heat, bring the water to a boil, add the teabags, and let it steep for a few minutes.

  2. Add in the sugar and stir until it fully dissolves.

  3. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Finally, strain the syrup to take out the tea leaves (or simply remove the tea bags), and store it in a jar in the fridge.

By making your own syrup, you get a deeper, more nuanced flavor that brings out the best of both the matcha and the bergamot.

That’s all for now, bb!

So, what do you think? My final verdict? Delicious. Totally worth the hype. A bit too caffeinated, maybe. But, well, not a bad idea for when you need to concentrate for hours to get that paper finished. A blend of bold flavors and smooth textures that’s sure to bring a little excitement to your usual matcha routine.
