DIY matcha de-puff patches: your under-eyes’ new best friends

DIY matcha de-puff patches: your under-eyes’ new best friends

Puffy eyes and dark circles? So annoying. We’ve all been there, staring in the mirror, wondering why our under-eyes look like we’ve been through a 48-hour TikTok binge. Those sneaky dark circles make their appearance after one bad night (or two or three), and no matter what we try, they always seem to come back. And yeah, there are thousands of treatments and products that promise to solve it, but… I sometimes feel like they’re kinda… too FaceTuned for my taste. And a bit pricey, too.

Well, bestie, I’ve got something that’s fun, cute, and super refreshing: a DIY matcha under-eye treatment.

Can I promise it’ll work magic? I can’t say for sure. But what I can say is that it’ll be a vibe, and it’s got nourishing natural ingredients that will give your tired eyes a treat.

Why your under-eyes look tired (and what people usually do about it)

I’ve read around to try to understand why we get dark circles, and this is what I found are the usual culprits:

  • Lack of sleep (or let’s face it, too much sleep):
Honestly not even surprised here, right? It sounds like having the right amount of sleep would solve a lot of our problems. Sleeping too little can make your skin look paler, which means the blood vessels under your eyes show more easily.

  • Dehydration (seriously, drink that water):
Again, not surprised… if you don’t drink enough water and keep your skin hydrated, it becomes dull.

  • Bad diet (we see you, late-night snacks):
Apparently, a diet that’s low in iron and high in salt can result in more pronounced dark circles. You know the saying “you are what you eat”? Yeah, it’s quite true…

  • Genetics (it’s just your DNA, we get it):
This one is kind of a bummer because there isn’t much we can do about it. But yeah, dark circles can be an inherited trait, and even things like your face structure can affect.

  • Allergies (thanks, pollen)
Allergic reactions can cause inflammation, and if it makes you rub your eyes intensely? Yup, that swells up your eyes.

And our usual go-to remedies? Or the recommended things you should do? Here’s a few:

  • Cold compress: putting cold gives you an instant relief

  • Tea bags: it is said that the caffeine in tea can increase the blood flow in your skin

  • 8 hours of sleep: huh… easier said than done, right?

  • Sunscreen & skincare routine: the skin in your under eyes is extremely thin, so you have to protect it and keep it hydrated

  • Chugging water like it’s a personality trait

Well, this DIY matcha under-eye treatment may not solve all your problems, but it does combine a few of these techniques together. Let’s get to it.

The glow-up ingredients

The main reason why what I’m about to show you is a game changer is because of the amazing ingredients it uses.

  • Cucumber 🥒: hydrating, soothing, and anti-inflammatory

  • Aloe vera 🌿: calming, hydrating, and packed with skin-loving goodness

  • Matcha powder 🍵: the star of the show, packed with antioxidants and caffeine

How to make the matcha de-puff patches

Here’s how to whip up your own matcha green tea under-eye treatment at home:

You’ll need:

  • ¼ sliced cucumber (skin on)

  • ¼ cup matcha tea (the usual 1 scoop Matcha DNA matcha powder + 2 oz hot water)

  • 1 tbsp fresh aloe vera (just the jelly inside)

  • Cotton rounds

  • Freezer-safe container

Instructions:

  1. Prep the ingredients: Slice the cucumber and aloe vera. Make your matcha tea as you usually would by whisking 1 scoop of matcha tea powder into 2 oz of hot water.

  2. Blend it all together: Blend the cucumber, aloe, and matcha tea until you’ve got a smoothie-like consistency. Pour it into a bowl. Got leftover matcha? Make yourself a matcha latte!

  3. Cut cotton rounds: Slice your cotton rounds into half-moon shapes and dip them one-by-one into the matcha blend, pressing out any extra liquid while maintaining their half-circle shape.

  4. Freeze: Place the soaked cotton pads on parchment paper and place them in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 2 to 3 hours.

  5. Apply and relax: Once time has passed and your patches are frozen, apply them under your eyes for about 12-15 minutes. This is your time to relax, vibe, and take that selfie 🧖♀️Believe me, the cooling effect these have is like the best part.

💡 Pro tip: You should keep the patches in the freezer until you’re ready to use them, to keep them fresh and bacteria-free. Also, don’t use them more than once 😉

That’s pretty much it, bestie.
