Let’s face it, sometimes lotion just isn’t enough to give your skin that much-needed glow, especially during the dry season. Whether it’s the harsh winter air or just everyday life, we all crave that silky, soft skin that feels amazing. Enter soothing matcha bath melts, the perfect solution to pamper yourself that combines matcha tea powder, cocoa butter, and essential oils for hydrated, soft skin.
These bath melts are not just about skincare. They’re about creating a self-care ritual that feels like you’ve just stepped out of a luxurious spa session (without the pricey tag). And like, who doesn’t want that?
What are bath melts?
If you’ve never heard of them, let me break it down for you. Bath melts are solid bars made from a blend of butters, carrier oils, and essential oils that melt when submerged in warm water, releasing all sorts of nourishing oils and moisture that hydrate your skin while you soak.
As the DIY enthusiast that I am (and a matcha-obsessed girly, too), I spent a while researching if it was possible to make bath melts myself, and was pleasantly surprised when I found that Stephanie Pollard (author of helloglow.co) shared a recipe for matcha bath melts. Yup, you heard that right. So, clearly, I had to try it right away. And now I’ll share it here with you. Let’s get to it.
Ingredients and why they’re a perfect match
These bath melts combine the best matcha powder (Matcha DNA’s, obvs) with other skin-loving ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, and jasmine essential oil, and will leave you feeling relaxed and your skin feeling hella smooth.
Here’s what you need to make them:
-
¼ cup cocoa butter
Rich in antioxidants, smells amazing, locks in moisture and leaves your skin feeling velvety soft -
¼ cup shea butter
Has anti-inflammatory properties, a creamy texture and nutty scent -
1 tsp beeswax
Binds the ingredients together and locks in moisture -
1 tbsp honey
Moisturizes, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties -
1 tbsp Matcha DNA’s matcha tea powder
Packed with antioxidants, helps detoxify and reduces inflammation -
25 drops jasmine essential oil
Has calming properties and is rich in antioxidants
How to make them and store them
Surprisingly, not that complicated!! We love an easy beauty DIY.
-
Melt the butters: In a microwave, melt the cocoa butter, shea butter, and beeswax in 30 second intervals. Stir in between each to ensure everything blends together smoothly. You could do this with a double boiler, but I’m going for the easier, lazier option.
-
Add the good stuff: Once everything has melted, stir in the honey, matcha powder, and jasmine essential oil. Stir until well combined.
-
Pour into molds: Pour the mixture into silicone molds or muffin tins, and let them cool at room temperature until solid.
-
Unmold and store: Once they’re fully solid, pop them out of the molds and store your bath melts in an airtight container.
💡 Storage tip: other than putting them in an airtight container, you should also keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent them from melting faster. You should also use them up within 3 to 6 months (natural skincare, bb).
How to use them
Now that you’ve made your matcha bath melts, here are a few recommendations on how to use them:
-
When to use: after a long day or when you need some serious relaxation (come on, go find an excuse to make yourself a soothing bath)
-
How to use: simply pop one bath melt into your warm bath (it’ll melt and release all those incredible ingredients)
💡 Pro tip: make sure to rinse the tub afterward with baking soda to avoid any residual oil build-up (and to keep things slip-free!)
That’s all, friends. Get your bath melts ready for your next self-care session! I swear, there’s nothing better than a soothing matcha bath after a long day.
