We’ve all been there. You have an amazing day at the beach, get home, go shower, and when you go brush your hair… Ouch, you find out you’ve got the worst scalp sunburn that doesn’t even let you run your fingers through your hair without shedding a little tear.
Sunburned scalps are painful, inconvenient, and let’s be real, just plain annoying. But don’t stress, I’ve got a matcha + tamanu oil hair mask that is meant to help soothe and nourish your skin, and ease the pain a little. Trust me, your scalp will thank you!
Why this hair mask is a total game-changer
This matcha hair mask is packed with nourishing ingredients that will hydrate, calm, and revitalize your hair and scalp. Hear me out on why these are good for you:
-
Matcha:
A classic for you at this point, I hope. A hero ingredient that’s rich in antioxidants, matcha tea powder has incredible anti-inflammatory properties that will help calm your irritated scalp.
-
Tamanu oil:
This fatty nut oil from the tamanu tree is known for having skin-healing properties. They say it reduces redness, soothes irritated skin, and even promotes healing (and reduces scarring). Just like matcha, it’s also rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.
-
Carrot seed oil:
Rich in vitamin A and vitamin E, carrot seed oil helps repair sun damage, promote healthy skin, and support scalp health. Apparently, this oil even has a compound that’s usually used in sunscreens!
-
Unsweetened yogurt:
We’ve used it in face masks and other beauty DIYs, so we know it’s not just for eating. Hydrating and nourishing, yogurt helps soften and shine your hair, while adding moisture to your scalp.
-
Roman chamomile essential oil:
This essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties, calms inflammation, and adds a relaxing, aroma-therapeutic vibe to your mask moment.
Ingredients you’ll need
You already know what’s going in it, here are the exact quantities that you need:
-
1 tbsp Matcha DNA matcha powder
-
1 tbsp tamanu oil
-
½ tsp carrot seed oil
-
⅓ cup unsweetened yogurt
-
3 drops Roman chamomile essential oil
How to make and apply your matcha hair mask
-
Mix it up: In a small bowl, combine the matcha powder, tamanu oil, carrot seed oil, yogurt, and chamomile essential oil. Stir well until you’ve created a smooth, uniform paste.
-
Apply it: Part your hair in sections and use your fingers to apply the mask directly to your scalp. Gently massage it in (you can use a scalp brush to help you out) to ensure you absorb all the goodness. It also feels incredibly good to give yourself a little massage, don’t you think?
-
Relax and let it do its thang: Time to lay back and leave the mask on for about 15 minutes. Take a break, scroll through TikTok, make yourself an iced matcha latte, or just chill.
-
Rinse it off: Once those 15 minutes have gone by, wash your hair thoroughly. You might need to shampoo twice to get all the oils out, but, trust me, your hair will feel incredible after, and the irritation will be gone!
That’s it for now, bb.
Hopefully after trying this, you understand why this matcha + tamanu oil mask is a vibe, not just because it helps heal your sunburned scalp, but also because it doubles as a fun self-care ritual. It feels super nice, has matcha in it (that makes it an automatic yes for me), and screaaaams summer vacation rest.
But, seriously, next time you’re out in the sun all day, don’t forget your cap, okay?
