POV: you just made the cutest matcha thumbprint cookies

Ok, hear me out, because even the Grinch would love these cookies.

These matcha thumbprint cookies are full-on main character material: buttery-soft, glow-green gorgeous, and filled with just enough jammy sweetness to win over even the iciest hearts. The kind of treat that makes you go from “meh” to “can’t stop, won’t stop”. And did I mention they’re aesthetic AF?

Forget saving thumbprint cookies for the holidays. We’re making them a year-round vibe with the power of matcha green tea and the sweetness of strawberry jam.

It’s not a holiday thing, it’s a matcha mood. And that mood? Delicious.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks of butter, softened

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp Matcha DNA matcha powder (aka the best matcha green tea powder for baking, duh)

  • Strawberry jam (as much as you need to fill the cookies, no limits here)

How to make matcha thumbprint cookies (step-by-step)

This is your permission slip to get messy in the kitchen. Here’s how:

  1. Cream it up: Beat softened butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy.

  2. Add the eggs: Toss in your egg + extra yolk. Mix until fully blended.

  3. Mix the dry ingredients: Add the flour, salt, and Matcha DNA matcha tea powder. Fold until you’ve got a dough that holds its shape.

  4. Roll it out: Scoop and roll the dough into little balls. Place them on a lined sheet tray.

  5. Thumbprint moment: Use a teaspoon (or your actual thumb, commit to the bit) to press a dip in each dough ball.

  6. Jam drop: Spoon around half a teaspoon of strawberry jam into the center of each cookie.

  7. Bake it: Bake at 350 °F for about 15 minutes. You’re looking for golden bottoms and soft tops. Chef’s kiss 🤌

🧊 Pro tip: Chill your dough for 20 minutes before making the balls to help them hold their shape better in the oven.

📸 Time to flex (and eat)

I mean, look at them. All green and cute 💚 These cookies are made to be photographed. So snap a pic and tag us @matcha.dna on TikTok and @matchadna on Instagram. My recommendation is to enjoy them with a yummy matcha latte (hot or iced, you do you) for a full green fantasy, and make sure to store them in an airtight container… if you don’t eat them all in one sitting (guilty).
