Picture this: it’s a hot July afternoon. You’re at home, hot AF, little to no clothes on, trying to think of ways to fight the summer heat. Know the vibes? Well, girl, this matcha shaved ice recipe is here to save the day.
You heard it. It’s fun, aesthetic, and an insanely delicious way to beat the heat. Plus, you can add whatever toppings you like, so you can basically eat this every day with different things on top, and you won’t get bored. Not bad, right?
In this easy recipe, we’re combining the playful fun of shaved ice (nothing beats a snow cone) with the bold flavor of matcha tea powder, making it the perfect mix of sweet, umami, and totally Instagram-worthy.
Let’s get into it.
What you’ll need
-
1 cup shaved ice (ideally from a shaved ice machine, but, honestly, you can try making it in a blender)
-
1 tsp Matcha DNA matcha powder (a recipe without matcha? not a vibe ❌😤)
-
3 tbsp hot water (you’ll be using 1 for matcha and 2 for the sweetener)
-
3 tbsp sweetener (sugar, honey, agave, pick your fave!)
-
Optional toppings (keep reading for some inspo 😮💨)
How to make your matcha shaved ice like a pro ✨
-
Whisk your matcha: In a small bowl, combine the matcha powder with 1 tbsp hot water. Whisk it until it’s fully dissolved and frothy.
-
Make the sweetener base: In another bowl, mix the sweetener with the other 2 tbsp of hot water. Stir it up until most of the sweetener dissolves.
-
Mix it all together: Pour your whisked matcha into the sweetener mixture. Mix everything until smooth and fully combined. You should have a vibrant green syrup ready to pour over your ice.
-
Assemble the ice dream: Now, grab your shaved ice and pile it into a bowl or cup. Pour the matcha syrup over the top, and watch that iconic, lovely green melt over the ice 💚
-
Top it off: Finish it off with your favorite toppings (you’ll find some ideas if you keep reading, bb), and enjooooy!
Toppings that absolutely slap
Even though the matcha shaved ice is incredible as is (matcha girlies will just get me), I still think the best part about it is that you can go all in with the toppings. And there are endless possibilities!
Here are a few ideas:
-
Condensed milk drizzle (for a creamy, sweet, and dreamy finish. This is my personal fave!)
-
Fresh fruits (think strawberries, mango, lychee, or anything that screams summer. Absolutely de-li-cious)
-
Mini tapioca pearls or fruit jellies (why not add some fun texture to your ice?)
-
Scoop of ice cream (matcha, vanilla, or any flavor you love. Yes, please)
-
Sweet red bean paste and mochi balls (for that traditional Japanese touch)
-
Edible glitter or rainbow sprinkles (if you’re all about that aesthetic dessert)
That’s all for now, bb
Try it first, thank me later. Best summer dessert. I could seriously have this every day for the next month. And not only does it hit the spot with flavor and cools you down, you’re also getting the antioxidant-rich benefits of matcha tea. A complete win-win.
So if you try it, don’t forget to take some pics and share them with us on TikTok @matcha.dna and on Instagram @matchadna. This dessert is made to be shared.
