It’s not a secret anymore. At least not around here (is it really that obvious?)… I’m obsessed with matcha. Like, for reals. I put matcha tea powder in my lattes, my skincare, my desserts, literally anywhere I can. And recently, I had the brilliant idea to add it to my waffles. Let me tell you: 10/10, no cap. 🤌
These matcha waffles? Perfect for breakfast or brunch (or whenever you’re craving them, tbh), super aesthetic as always (matcha green goddess whooo 💚), and packing that matcha green tea energy boost we all need. Plus, they’re super customizable, one of the things I value the most about a recipe. We ain’t getting tired of eating the same thing over and over again, girl.
Let’s get into it.
Ingredients you need
Dry ingredients:
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
2 tbsp sugar
-
1 tbsp baking powder
-
1 tbsp Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder (the best matcha green tea powder makes all the difference)
-
¼ tsp salt
Wet ingredients:
-
1 ¾ cups almond milk (or milk of choice)
-
2 eggs
-
½ cup melted butter
-
1 tbsp vanilla extract
How to make the best matcha waffles
-
Preheat & prep: Turn on your waffle iron so it’s ready to go. No one likes waiting when they’re hangry.
-
Mix your dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, matcha powder and salt.
-
Mix your wet ingredients: In another medium bowl, whisk the eggs, milk and vanilla.
-
Combine & mix: Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently. Then, add the melted butter and mix just until combined. Be careful not to overmix!
-
Cook: Add the batter to your preheated waffle iron (you're welcome) and cook until golden brown and slightly crispy. I’m getting excited just by writing this out.
-
Top & serve: This is where you get to customize your waffles. Top it off with maple syrup, butter, fruit, or whatever makes you happy. Snap a pic, and enjoy!
Quite simple, right?
Here’s some inspo for toppings if you’re out of ideas:
✨ For a dessert:
Top with matcha whipped cream, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
🍗 For a savory twist:
Pair with fried chicken and drizzle with honey. Chef’s kiss. 🤌
🎥 For a TikTok-worthy drizzle:
Mix matcha powder with white chocolate for that slow-motion aesthetic pour shot.
