Forget boring cocktails. The matcha martini, aka the matchatini, is green, clean, and extra photogenic. It’s the cocktail upgrade you didn’t know you needed.
The matchatini has been blowing up on TikTok and appearing on specialized cocktail bars, and it’s easy to see why. I mean, matcha, firstly. Like that’s a reason on its own. But for reals, whether you’re hosting a dinner party with the girlies or simply need a drink after a long, stressful day, this matcha tea recipe (can I call it a recipe if it’s a cocktail?) has the aesthetic, the energy punch, and the flavor.
Espresso martini who? Nah, matcha green tea is about to shake up your cocktail game, literally. And I’m so here for it.
I obviously did some research before preparing it (my algorithm now only shows me matcha cocktails, get ready for more!!). And yes, there are endless ways to make it, and they all seem really tasty, honestly. But this is how I tried it and liked it: it’s delish, creamy, and hella cool. Let me tell you how I did it.
What you’ll need
-
Ice (because, duh)
-
2 shots of vodka, classic and clean, or your fave flavored version
-
Matcha shot: 1 scoop of MatchaDNA organic matcha powder + 2 oz hot (not boiling) water
-
A splash of coconut milk, for that creamy touch
-
Agave or simple syrup, or whatever sweetener you like
-
Optional garnish: a pinch of matcha tea powder on top or a matcha-dusted rim (chef’s kiss)
How to make your matchatini
It’s giving bartender-core. Here's how to mix it up:
-
Chill your glass: Pop your most aesthetic coupe glass in the freezer. Cold glass = class. Do this right before preparing it.
-
Make your matcha shot: As you usually would, whisk 1 scoop of matcha with 2 oz hot water with a frother. Make sure it’s clump-free!
-
Prep it: In a cocktail shaker, add your ice, vodka, matcha shot, coconut milk (eyeball it, girl), and your agave or syrup (as much as you want).
-
Shake it like you mean it: Top it with its lid and shake it for a minute or two until it’s super frothy. Your arms might feel it. It’s worth it.
-
Pour and flex: Strain into the chilled glass and garnish with a little matcha powder on top. Isn’t it cute AF?? Uh-huh, snap a pic. Sip. Flex again.
Flavor combos you need to try
One matchatini recipe? Cute. But you know what’s even better? Six.
Yup, like I said, there are plenty of ways to make it, and you should definitely try them. Here are some remixes you can experiment with:
-
🍫 The dessert girl: add chocolate liquor for a sweeter, richer taste
-
🍑 The cozy one: use amaretto liquor for a toasted, almondy warmth
-
🌾 The latte dream: swap the coconut milk for oat milk for a classic latte alternative
-
🍋 The zing queen: add lemon juice for a bright and tangy twist
-
☕️ Make it dirty: add a shot of espresso, because espresso martinis walked so this could run
-
🧊 No milk, no problem: go clean and bold with just vodka, matcha, and syrup. For real matcha lovers
