Matcha donuts: cute, green & glazed to perfection

Craving something cute, green, and glazed to cure your matcha cravings? Say less. These matcha donuts I’m about to show you are easy, packed with flavor, and an easy way to get your matcha fix. They’re the kind of thing you can make when you want a treat that’s as tasty as it is aesthetic.

Why you’ll love them:

  • Oven-baked (aka no frying mess, thank you)

  • Ready in just 30 minutes (sweet o‘clock? you’ll be enjoying these in no time)

  • Perfect for photo dumps (that iconic green? your camera’s best friend)

No gatekeeping here. Let’s bake.

What you’ll need

For the donuts:

  • ¼ cup melted coconut oil

  • ⅓ cup cane sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • ¾ tsp baking powder

  • ⅛ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp Matcha DNA matcha powder

  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg

  • Heaping ¼ tsp sea salt

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup almond milk

For the glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • ¼ tsp Matcha DNA matcha powder

  • 1 tbsp almond milk

Let’s bake! Step-by-step instructions

Prep time: 10 minutes | Bake time: 10 minutes | Cool time: 10 mins

This recipe makes 6 donuts, so double up if you want more!

  1. Preheat and prep: Set your oven to 425 °F and lightly grease a 6-hole donut pan.

  2. Whisk the wet ingredients: In a bowl, mix the melted coconut oil and cane sugar. Then, add the egg and keep whisking until smooth.

  3. Matcha-fy it: Add in the baking powder, baking soda, matcha powder, nutmeg, sea salt, and vanilla. Doesn’t it smell ✨incredible✨ already?

  4. Mix the batter: Start adding the flour and go alternating with the almond milk. The batter should be thick, and a spatula drawn through it should leave a line.

  5. Get it ready for baking: Spoon the batter into the donut pan. Feeling fancy? You can use a piping bag, which will also make it much easier.

  6. Bake and cool: Bake for 10 minutes, and then let cool for 5 to 10 minutes before transferring them into a wire rack to finish cooling.

  7. Glaze it up: To make the matcha glaze, whisk the powdered sugar with the matcha powder in a bowl, and then stir in the almond milk until smooth. Once the donuts are fully cooled down, dip them into the glaze and let the excess drip off. Let them set and appreciate that lovely green.

Make them your own

That’s it, girl! But as usual, why not add your own touch to these donuts?

  • Add edible glitter, crushed freeze-dried strawberries, or gold flakes right after dipping them into the matcha glaze for ✨extra vibes✨

  • Top them off with matcha powdered sugar instead

  • Try a chocolate matcha glaze or white chocolate glaze with a matcha drizzle (artsy AF)

  • Use a muffin tin or cookie cutter to make mini matcha donut holes, perfect for sharing (or not)
