Okay, don’t look at me weird, but I’m one of those people who refuses to lock peppermint away in the Christmas box. Sure, it’s everywhere in December: peppermint mochas, candy canes, festive lattes… But why should cozy holiday vibes get all the fun? Peppermint is way too good to only enjoy when Mariah Carey is on repeat. And it’s so refreshing tbh, why don’t we use it more in summer?? So yeah, mixed with the earthy smoothness of matcha and poured over ice, it turns into the kind of drink that feels both fresh and energizing, like a little holiday magic you can sip mid-summer.
So let me show you how I made this iced peppermint matcha latte that’s all about claiming your cravings whenever they hit. It’s simple to make, looks gorgeous, and yes, tastes just as good in flip-flops as it does in fuzzy socks.
What you’ll need
Of course, I’m not asking for a grocery store scavenger hunt here. You only need a few ingredients:
-
1 scoop Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder
-
2 oz hot water
-
1-2 tbsp peppermint syrup, either store-bought or homemade! It’s not too complicated, you just simmer sugar, water, and peppermint, and there you have it!
-
½ cup of the milk of your choice, I recommend something creamy to get that silky, dreamy dessert-like texture
-
Ice, plenty of it
And hey! Did you know that peppermint actually has a few renown benefits? Apparently, it can help with digestion and headaches, it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and may even help relieve period cramps. So yes, you’re not only getting the good stuff from the matcha, you’re also drinking the benefits of peppermint. Not bad for something that also makes your drink look and taste like a café special.
How to make it (step by step)
-
Whisk the matcha: As you usually would, sift your matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 2 oz of hot water and whisk until frothy.
-
Prep your glass: Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the peppermint syrup.
-
Add the milk: Slowly pour in the milk that you chose.
-
Finish with matcha: Pour your frothy matcha over the milk and watch that beautiful ombré effect.
-
Taste and adjust: Too minty? Add more milk. Want it stronger? Whisk in another half teaspoon of matcha with a splash of water and pour it on top.
The extra magic
There you have it. I mean, sure, you can also make this during Christmas and go crazy for it. Tbh I probably will. But who said you could only enjoy it a few days of the year? Heck nah!
And here’s the thing: peppermint and matcha don’t just taste good together, they balance each other out. The mint cuts through any bitterness, while the matcha rounds off the sharpness of peppermint. The result is a latte that’s refreshing without being icy, energizing without being jittery.
If you’re feeling extra, you can even top it with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed candy cane (a bit more festive but, why not?). Either way, you’ve got yourself a drink that works as well for an afternoon pick-me-up as it does for a cozy winter movie night. Periodt.
At the end of the day, this drink proves that peppermint doesn’t need to be seasonal, and that matcha doesn’t disappoint, and is versatile enough to make it shine.
