The great thing about matcha? Well, apart from its lovely green color, the taste, the versatility, its benefits… There are actually a lot of great things about matcha. But other than all these wonderful things: there isn’t just one way to make it. Whether you’re feeling ritualistic and slow, or you need your matcha fix ASAP, there are quite a few ways that you can mix it up, and they’re all valid and give you quite good results, as well. And you knooow that’s quite important, because:
A good mix = smooth, frothy, and lump-free matcha.
A bad mix = chalky, clumpy, sad matcha. 🚫
So let me show you how to make matcha tea your way, whether you whisk it, froth it, blend it, or shake it.
Choose your matcha mixing weapon
1. Bamboo whisk (the classic aesthetic)
Best for: the ritualist, aesthetic matcha lover, and anyone who enjoys the traditional matcha vibe. Or wants to try it out.
What you need:
-
A matcha bowl
-
Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder
-
Hot water (not boiling!)
-
A bamboo whisk (aka chasen)
How to use it:
-
Sift the matcha into your bowl and add a little hot water.
-
Whisk in a W or zigzag motion until you get that beautiful frothy texture.
-
Add more water or milk if making a latte.
This is perfect for slowing down and feeling fancy. Aesthetic? 10/10. I do this every once in a while whenever I’m having a full-on self-care session because it helps me unwind.
2. Electric frother (for quick, no-mess froth)
Best for: busy mornings, latte lovers, and those who need matcha fast, without sacrificing froth.
What you need:
-
A cup
-
Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder
-
Hot water
-
A handheld electric frother
How to use it:
-
Add matcha + a little hot water to your cup.
-
Turn on your frother and mix until smooth & foamy.
-
Add milk for a tasty matcha latte (I usually froth the milk as well for extra creaminess).
Speed level: almost instant. No fancy skills needed. Just press a button and done. This is my go-to for every day, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
3. Blender (for the ultimate creaminess)
Best for: smoothie fans, extra-frothy lattes, or when you want your matcha ultra-creamy.
What you need:
-
A blender
-
Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder
-
Hot or cold liquid (milk, water, etc.)
-
Optional: sweetener, vanilla, fruit… whatever you wanna put in your matcha
How to use it:
-
Throw the matcha powder, the liquid of choice, and any extras into a blender.
-
Blend until smooth and creamy.
-
Pour into your cup, add ice if needed.
This method is perfect for smoothies and shakes. My best ally in the summer months. No need for shaking, just blend & pour.
4. Shaker bottle or mason jar (the zero-equipment hack)
Best for: on-the-go matcha, no kitchen tools, and when you just wanna shake things up (literally).
What you need:
-
A shaker bottle (or mason jar with a lid)
-
Matcha DNA’s organic matcha powder
-
Cold or hot liquid
How to use it:
-
Add the matcha + liquid of choice into your bottle.
-
Close the lid tightly (important unless you like wearing matcha).
-
Shake hard until it looks well mixed.
-
Pour over ice or drink as is.
